Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Part-Time Small Sort Handler, you manually process the network's smallest parcels inside a dedicated small-sort module during a focused 3.5 to 5 hour shift, reading destination barcodes and routing each item to the correct outbound chute with consistent accuracy inside our package center.

  • Parcel Diversion: Read destination zip codes and routing barcodes on envelopes, polybags, and small boxes traveling down dedicated small-sort conveyor lines, physically diverting each item to the correct destination chute at a sustained accurate rate.
  • Container Management: Monitor assigned outbound chutes for overflow, pulling full containers and replacing them with empty ones fluidly throughout the shift to maintain uninterrupted sort flow at all times.
  • Scan Verification: Use a handheld scanner to verify chute-level package counts against the sort plan before sealing containers, flagging any count discrepancy to the shift supervisor before the container is sent to outbound loading.
